Job Purpose:

This position performs routine operations and maintenance tasks in the wastewater plant. Will learn all aspects of wastewater treatment in a great Town environment. 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

 

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Working under the guidance of Chief Operator, this position performs specific tasks in unit operations, process monitoring, routine maintenance, and general housekeeping

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position involves direct execution of technical tasks, requiring 100% of work time.
  • Perform maintenance on all municipal lift stations
  • Assist with ensuring wastewater system operations comply with related state law
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of manholes and sanitary lines
  • Ability to operate large trucks and heavy equipment
  • Assist with general maintenance of all Wastewater Department buildings
  • Operate specialized equipment such as sewer televising system and jet/vac truck
  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls when notified
  • Clean, televise, and inspect sanitary sewer line
  • Assist with day-to-day operations at the plant
  • General knowledge of electrical principals
  • Ability to lift 50-100 lbs.
  • OSHA 10 Certification within one year of hire, updated every five years after.
     

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

The nature of the work in the Wastewater Department requires personnel to be available on an emergency basis and to work extended hours as required.  Other situations of a non-emergency nature will require activity beyond the normal workday.  Once fully trained will be in the weekly rotation for on call and weekend duties and will also be added to the holiday schedule as the treatment plant is open and operates 365 days / year.

Working Conditions:

The nature of the work in the Wastewater Department requires personnel to be available on an emergency basis and to work extended hours as required.  Other situations of a non-emergency nature may require activity beyond the normal workday.   Will be included in the rotation of weekends and holidays and will be required to work extra days to fulfill the 5-day lab requirements of the EPA and IDEM.    Must be able to work extra holidays and or weekends to perform extra lab when overflowing EQ and for 5 days of sampling as per the permit.  There is a biohazard associated with working with living organisms (bacteria) and all proper personal protective equipment is required to perform the job safely.  In public, while performing locates, must be able to handle self professionally and represent the department and the Town in a highly professional manner.

 

Physical requirements:

The individual must have the physical ability to walk and climb in all areas of the treatment plant and perform the operator’s duties.  Must be able to occasionally lift 55 pound bags of sodium thiosulfate properly.   Must be able to be outside in all different weather conditions and perform the job safely.
