The City of Bedford water filtration plant is seeking job applicants for our surface water treatment plant

Job Title: Filtration Plant Operator
Classification: Hourly

General Summery

Responsibilities include planning, coordination and implementation of various technical services to assure the filtration plant operates in compliance with all state and federal regulations. This position reports to the Filtration Plant Superintendent.
 

Essential Functions

Task Description
• Perform all required testing and document data.
• Maintaining accurate records and logs of plant operations.
• Maintain and calibrate all lab equipment.
• Completing tasks as needed to chemical feeders and make needed adjustments to pumps and valves.
• Monitor all equipment and gauges for proper function of plant.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks as needed.
• Make timely security checks throughout buildings and ground and respond to alarms, security concerns and unauthorized activity by reporting to proper authority.
• Perform other related duties and provide back up as assigned.
 

Knowledge/ Skill/ Abilities Required
• Organizational skills necessary to plan and coordinate work.
• Excellent math aptitude.
• Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Understand and evaluate laboratory analysis.
• Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact and convey
technical information in a clear, concise manner with all personnel and
outside venders.
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations.

Education

•    High school diploma.
•    College, University, Vocational/ Technical preparation encouraged but not required.
•    Working to obtain water treatment operators license (WT 5).
•    Must obtain water treatment continuing education units (CEU's) to keep operator licenses valid.

Mental Demands

•    Flow of work and character of duties.
•    Involves normal visual and mental attention at all times.

Physical Demands

•    Physical effort will be required, including lifting (up to 501bs.).
•    Bending, pushing, crouching, pulling and stair climbing as well as occasional outside work in all conditions.

Working Conditions

•    Industrial plant operations.
•    Safe working environment in compliance with OSHA standards.
