Derrick is known for his friendly demeanor and inviting booth, which often features enticing beef jerky. But Derrick is more than just a face at a conference. Short sat down with the Alliance to share what he does and, more importantly, why ART has chosen to be a Diamond Associate Member of the Alliance.
"Advanced Rehabilitation Technology does chemical coatings and high-performance coatings on water, wastewater, stormwater, and industrial waste secondary containment structures," shares Derrick Short, Sales Manager at ART. ART utilizes UL-certified NSF/ANSI 61 polyurea coatings to repair potable water systems, including storage tanks, distribution lines, aqueducts, and treatment plants called Ovac, ensuring the durability and reliability of its projects. The process involves meticulous planning, thorough preparation, and precise application, all to guarantee the highest quality results. "We line about 5,500 manholes a year and 200 lift stations a year, all using high-performance polyurea coatings," added Short.
In Indiana, ART is predominantly engaged in sanitary projects. "Most of the projects we take on are manholes, wet wells, and catch basins," explains Short. "We also do some water filters, detention tanks, clear wells, and things like that."
One noteworthy project ART recently undertook was coating the Atlanta, Indiana, water treatment plant's aeration water tank and detention tank, emphasizing its capabilities in the field. "Recently, we coated sandblast and uncoated the Atlanta Indiana aeration water tank and the detention tank and media filters at the Atlanta Indiana water treatment plant, which is a pretty cool project," shares Short. What made this project particularly exceptional was its focus on drinking water. "We have no PFAS in our coatings so that we can do more work on the water treatment side," elaborates Short. "This unique feature of our coatings makes them a superior option for drinking water projects. It sets us apart from our competitors, giving our clients a more informed choice and a clear competitive advantage."

When asked which event was his favorite, Short answered without hesitation that it was the Spring Conference in French Lick, Indiana. "I've not been to a show where I had an opportunity to meet this many customers at one time," Short says. "It is the best way to interact with the Alliance," he adds, emphasizing the value of these interactions. ART also co-sponsors one of the year's best parties at the Spring Conference. This hospitality event allows attendees and vendors to network and create meaningful connections at AIRW's biggest conference of the year while staying true to one of the Alliance's core values…having fun.
