Water Treatment Operator WT-3 - Seelyville Water (Near Terre Haute)

Essential Job Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (minimum), ability to pass a drug screen. Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) certification as Water Treatment Class 3 – pressure filters (WT3). Additional IDEM certification as Distribution System Large (DSL) Operator helpful but not necessary. Must submit verbal or written reports as requested or required. Attendance at monthly town council meeting as requested. General understanding of Seelyville Water Works distribution system and processes. 


Summary Statement:  As Water Treatment Operator the primary job function is to ensure a clean, safe and abundant water supply for customer convenience and safety. Water Treatment Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant (WTP) and all required testing. Direct purchasing of supplies needed for the operation of the plant is the responsibility of the Water Treatment Operator/ Operator of Record. Purchases that affect the infrastructure of the water system require Town Manager or Town Council approval. Maintain all records regarding operation and maintenance of WTP. Ensure that chemical testing is conducted, submitted and reported in the appropriate fashion. Collecting data, assembling, approving and submitting required reporting forms to IDEM. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What the job description does not tell. Seelyville Water is located in Vigo County, IN, near Terre Haute, Clinton and Brazil. Our water plant is 18 years old and has been meticulously maintained and upgraded, SCADA, Web-based security cameras, secure treatment plant and three wells on same parcel. We produce and deliver between 500,000 and 1.2M GPD to 2500 service connections including one College. The water treatment operator is expected to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and would be expected to interview potential candidates for a water technician opening. Compensation is commensurate with experience and would start between $35-40K, excellent benefits, employer-funded Health Savings Account and Small Employee Pension contributions, paid time off and provided vehicle for business use. Most recent operator was here for 14 years, one prior was here 24 years, we are looking for a long-term employee to continue the progress they’ve made. If you do not have a Distribution license, that is not an issue, we have two licensed Distribution Operators. We are in need of Treatment Operator with WT-3. We are very connected and work with our community and if the incumbent desires they can continue student/public plant tours, working with grade school students and chairing our Wellhead Protection Team. Work environment is climate controlled year round, completely dehumidified (no sweating pipes), a clean, modern plant that has been cared for awaits it’s next caretaker.
